Nýtt frá Daniel Johnston
Uppáhalds geðsjúklingur jaðarpoppara hefur lengi vel verið Texas-búinn Daniel Johnston, sem fyrir um 30 árum hóf að gefa út heimaframleiddar snældur með einlægri og bráðskemmtilegri músík. Þrátt fyrir að hafa verið ótrúlega afkastamikill hér í eina tíð hefur nýtt efni verið stopult frá kallinum og síðasta eiginlega breiðskífa kom út árið 2003 (ýmsar safn- og tónleikaplötur hafa reyndar komið út síðan). Í október er svo loksins ný plata væntanleg og mun bera heitið Is and Always Was og er lagið “Freedom” það fyrsta sem opinberað er af skífunni.

Það er ómögulegt að rifja upp feril Johnston í fáum orðum en áhugasömum er bent á hina stórkostlegu heimildarmynd The Devil and Daniel Johnston sem segir ótrúlega sögu tónlistarmannsins og baráttu hans við geðræna kvilla. Daniel hefur að sjálfsögðu haft nokkur áhrif á aðra jaðartónlistarmenn, enda einstakur í sinni röð og meðal þeirra sem tæklað hafa lög hans eru Yo La Tengo, Tom Waits, TV On The Radio, Beach House og Beck. Það er því ekki hægt skilja við Daniel Johnston án þess að finna til einhver tóndæmi af eldri verkum, veskú:
